Forests are essential for nature, people, and a stable climate around the world. But they are threatened by deforestation and degradation. We can restore our vital forests and help to protect the wildlife and biodiversity who depend on them. Endangered Species International (ESI) actively restores and protects rainforest within vital regions of the world's tropical rainforest (the Amazon Basin, Congo Basin and Southeast Asia).
The deforestation rate in the tropical region of the world has expanded by 70 per cent during the 1980s; and this rapid increase in the deforestation rate looks likely to expand still further during the foreseeable future.

Endangered Species International (ESI) has been a world leader in restoring and protecting native forests with the full involvement of local communities since 2008 by safeguarding forested lands. ESI has planted over 500,000 native trees belonging to 541 different species in the tropics and provided unvaluable grounds for natural regeneration of forests. Tree planted are carefully monitored by the local communities for at least 5 years and after that lengthy period we continue to visit our field sites. Further, we strengthen the land rights of Indigenous people and local communities and reduce poverty via new livelihood opportunities, so that all forest peoples can benefit from and protect the forests in which they live. Finally, creating effective protected areas remain a cornerstone of our global and local conservation efforts. Our supported and created protected areas include a broader spectrum of actors and rights holders, especially to landscapes and seascapes protected by indigenous peoples, local communities, private owners and other actors which complement conservation areas managed by state agencies.
HOW DO WE HELP FORESTS?
We support the protection of forests in nations and territories where they are still found by keeping them managed sustainably; protecting them and the biodiversity they are home to. ESI has been working in tropical regions of the world where protection and rewilding are urgently needed like the Congo Basin and the Amazon.
We urgently and carefully restore forests in places where they have been lost via the involvement of local communities.
We actively support and create forest protected areas on the ground managed by local communities and indigenous tribes.
We protect endangered wildlife found in forests. For example, we directly monitored and protect wild populations of endangered forest elephants, gorillas, and frogs in the Congo Basin in Africa.
We strengthen the land rights of Indigenous peoples and local communities, and reduce poverty, so that all forest peoples can benefit from and protect the forests in which they live.

But so much more than that, it means that the ecosystems that they support can continue to thrive and sustain immense biodiversity.
